Review of Back to the Future

Movie #22 - Back to the Future

One of the greatest movies ever made. Period.

Back to the Future is hopefully a movie for which I don't have to summarize the plot. If you don't know what this movie is about, then you haven't seen it, and if you haven't seen Back to the Future, you're a worthless, uncultured member of society. Please crawl back into the hole from whence you came.

This is a film that keeps your attention the entire time...haha, time...okay, only funny to me. Moving on. While watching the film, I noticed a few new things.
1) Billy Zane is one of Biff's gang members. You may know Billy Zane as Cal from Titanic. If you do not know Cal from Titanic, again, go crawl back into your hole.
2) The marquee at the movie theater in the town square says "Orgy American Style." Never noticed that. I also noticed that it says XXX on the other side of the marquee. Didn't realize an adult theater was plopped in the middle of the movie.
3) Einstein, Doc Brown's dog, is NOT a puppy when they go to 1955; however, the dog is still alive in 1985. How in the world is that dog still living?! Maybe that's addressed in one of the other Back to the Future movies, but it's definitely not mentioned in this one. Crazy vampire dog is what he is.

Did you know that Eric Stoltz was originally cast as Marty McFly because of Michael J. Fox's filming conflicts with Family Ties? I found this picture...
It's weird. I don't know if I like it or not. Don't get me wrong, 1980's Eric Stoltz was a major babe, so I think I could've dealt with watching him in this movie for two hours...however, Michael J. Fox IS Marty McFly. It's kind of cool to see these production pictures.
Couple of facts I learned:
1) They filmed several scenes with Eric Stoltz, but it just wasn't the right fit for Marty. SO, they worked out a filming schedule with Michael J. Fox and got rid of Eric Stoltz. (I think that's rude. They could've at least given him a different role in the movie).
2) Once Michael J. Fox was signed to the film, he was only allowed to film at night or on the weekends due to his filming contract with Family Ties. Once you know this fact, ALL you can focus on is that literally every scene Marty McFly is in takes place at night...except for like 3-4 scenes (which now I know must have been filmed on the weekends). It's interesting.

Also while I was watching this, I noticed that Doc Brown says "Back to the Future" - the movie title - in the movie. This reminds me of the scene from Family Guy when Peter Griffin mentions that he loves movies that mention the title of the movie in the movie...that's a lot of movies in one sentence. Anyway...so here's a video I found of the scene from Family Guy. Enjoy.

Overall, this movie is a classic. Michael J. Fox, Crispin Glover, Lea Thompson, Christopher Lloyd = amazing. I give Back to the Future 5 out of 5 stars.

AND I LEAVE YOU ALL WITH THIS...ROADS? WHERE WE'RE GOING WE DON'T NEED ROADS.
