My mission is to watch every movie I personally own. While watching each movie, I will review it and either confirm why I own this movie, or question my choices in life. I started this mission over three years ago...what can I say, I am not a very motivated individual.

Review: Ghostbusters
Movie #85 - Ghostbusters
Ghostbusters is a cult classic. Set in New York City, three men set out to rid the world of the paranormal. Egon Spengler, Peter Venkman, and Ray Stantz are doctors and scientists studying at Columbia University when they get a call from the New York Public Library reporting the sighting of a ghost. This is their first encounter with a real spirit, so they panic and run for the hills! However, this gets them extremely excited that all of their research hasn't been for nothing. They start The Ghostbusters business and immediately begin receiving calls. One customer in particular, Dana Barrett, has a large problem on her hands. The demigod, Zuul, is living in her refrigerator and has come to take over her apartment building. The guys do what they can, but nothing stops Zuul from possessing Dana and her neighbor, Louis. It's up to The Ghostbusters to save the day, and they do. They use their ghost busting proton packs to destroy the evil spirits, and they save New York City.
This may seem like a movie with a ridiculous premise, and it is, but it's a movie that is now considered a classic. With stars such as Bill Murray, Dan Akyroyd, Rick Moranis, and Harold Remis in it, how could it not be terrific to watch?
The only issue I have with the film, now that I am watching it again, is that there is no way Dana Barrett would be able to afford the apartment that she's living in...nor Louis Tully for that matter. They live on the 22nd floor of a building directly overlooking Central Park. I may be way off in saying this, but I guarantee a prize piece of real estate like that is listed in the millions. I doubt either one of its occupants will make that in a lifetime. I'm not sure exactly what Dana does for a living, but Louis is obviously in a position that forces him to have parties that only include co-workers, so he can write it off as a business expense and get reimbursed. Not exactly penthouse material.
Overall, the movie is witty, funny, corny, amusing...a huge variety of interesting adjectives.
I give Ghostbusters 3.5 out of 5 stars.
