Review: A Goofy Movie

#87 - A Goofy Movie

A Goofy Movie is one of my favorite Disney movies of all time. It has the songs, the humor, the great characters - it has everything an animated film should have.

A Goofy Movie is the story of Goofy and his son, Max. Max is a teenager who thinks his dad is uncool. I mean, who can blame him? His dad IS Goofy. Goofy is convinced that Max is on a one-way track to prison, thanks to his friend, Pete, so he sets up a father-son fishing trip to an old lake that his father used to take him to. This would all be swell if it wasn't scheduled for the weekend of the big Powerline concert on pay-per-view! Max has a date with the coolest girl in school, and he has to cancel it because of his dad and the stupid fishing trip. He makes up a crazy excuse as to why he can't make it to the pay-per-view concert party - his dad, Goofy, knows Powerline and has been invited to join him on stage! Trouble is...Max's dad doesn't even know who Powerline is. Max tries everything to get his dad to take him to the Powerline concert, but nothing works. One night, when Goofy is asleep, Max changes the route on the map. Goofy finds out and is devastated. However, this makes Goofy realize that his son is growing up and isn't his little boy anymore. He helps Max get onstage at the Powerline concert, and Max becomes the hero to his friends. Max comes clean with Roxanne, his date, and tells her that his dad really doesn't know Powerline. Because she already liked Max to begin with, she doesn't care that he lied to impress her. Roxanne and Max live happily ever after.

I love the music in this film. ESPECIALLY the Powerline stuff -

This is my favorite scene out of the entire movie. I LOVE this song.

There's really nothing to pick on with this film. It's fantastic. I love that Disney chose to give Goofy a son. I just don't understand where Max came from, all of a sudden. There's no back story about Max's mom - only Goofy's dad. I mean, even Pete has a son! How did that happen? Oh well. That's grasping for straws at this point.

Overall, A Goofy Movie is one of my top 10 favorite Disney films! I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
