Review: How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

#120 - How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is a romantic comedy about two successful residents of New York: Andie Anderson and Benjamin Barry. Both of them have very different agendas when they meet in a bar one night. Andie is a columnist at Composure magazine, and she's doing a story on how to lose a guy in 10 days - Ben is her target. Ben works for an advertising firm who has just landed a huge deal with a diamond campaign. He has made a bet that if he can get a girl to fall in love with him, he will head the campaign - Andie is his target. Over the course of the next 10 days, Andie puts Ben through hell...but he keeps holding on. She has no idea what is making him stay with her. She does everything wrong: she's clingy, she decorates his place with girly things, she's whiny...but Ben still stays. It isn't until Ben's diamond party that they both find out what has been going on. Andie and Ben's plans are outed, but not before Andie reveals that she's actually fallen in love with Ben. They have a falling out, in which Andie hits Ben hard by lying and saying he never had her to begin with. Time passes and Andie's column is released in the magazine. It's not what anyone expected. She pours her true feelings about Ben into the article, and then reveals that she's quitting the magazine. Ben chases after her, and they live happily ever after.

Although the two stars in this film are Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson (who are not my favorites by any means), this is one of my favorite chick flicks. It's just really good. No matter how many times I've watched it, it still makes me laugh - and I really love the on-screen chemistry between McConaughey and Hudson. When Andie turns psycho on Ben, it's hilarious. I think she lays it on a little thick though - I mean, if Ben hadn't made the bet to make a girl fall in love with him, I feel like he would've cut her loose after the first day. She really was crazy. The love fern scene though, is my favorite thing in the whole film.

There isn't anything negative at all to say about this film. Whenever I'm having a bad day, this is definitely a film that can turn my frown upside down.

I give How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days 5 out of 5 stars.
