Review of The Amazing Spider-Man

Movie #15 - The Amazing Spider-Man

Okay, so I clearly don't know my alphabet because Amazing does not come before American. I don't have my blu-rays alphabetized with my DVDs, so I forgot to go in order! So...I back tracked a bit.

The Amazing Spider-Man is just that...AMAZING. I'm a fan of the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man films, but this one just totally blows them out of the water. It's phenomenally done. The casting is spot on, the cinematography is wonderful to watch, and the story line follows the comic book. This movie has everything you want in an action flick, but it is also sprinkled with comedy - it's a well-rounded film.

The Amazing Spider-Man focuses on Peter Parker's relationship with Gwen Stacy instead of Mary-Jane Watson. If you are familiar with the comic books, this is correct. He falls for Gwen Stacy way before he falls for Mary-Jane. I'm not sure about how their relationship is portrayed in the comics, but on screen it's just to die for. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are adorable together - and I think it's a match made in heaven for them to be dating outside of the film as well. I mean, look at them...adorbs.

Not many people may know this, but Andrew Garfield did many of his own stunts AND the entire skateboard scene. See below...

That's hot. I hate to quote someone as brain-dead as Paris Hilton, but I have to...because Andrew Garfield is hot. They couldn't have cast anyone more correct for the role of Peter Parker than Andrew Garfield. He absolutely shines on screen. His commitment to the character makes every single scene believable. It's a breath of fresh air to watch an actor that can do that. When paired with cute little Emma Stone, the director has gold on his hands.

There was nothing wrong with this movie at all. It was what a superhero movie is supposed to be - you'll hear me gush again when I get to Captain America and The Avengers as well. I can't wait for the sequel...to any of these movies, now that I mention it.

One of my favorite lines of the entire film is in the final scene: Peter is asked to promise Gwen's father right before he dies to never see Gwen again...to keep her away from the life he lives as Spider-Man. He promises and tries his hardest to stay away from her; however, they're sitting in class and the teacher says, "Don't make promises you can't keep, Mr. Parker" and Peter leans forward to Gwen and says, "Yeah, but those are the best kind." Sooo...he is not going to keep his promise to Gwen's father because he loves Gwen too much to stay away. I love it! Peter Parker <3

Overall, this movie should receive 6 out of 5 stars, but I'll stick with my original scale and max out at 5 out of 5. I give The Amazing Spider-Man 5 out of 5 stars. I real triumph on the silver screen.
