Movie #3 - 17 Again. I think it's extremely funny that I watched this movie directly after 13 Going on 30, because this is the opposite age transition, but the SAME plot...again. HOWEVER, I get distracted from the overused plot line by the talented (and smoking hot) Zac Efron and his hilarious sidekick Ned, played by Thomas Lennon. The comedic teamwork between Efron and Lennon makes the movie super enjoyable to watch. Of course, I am a dork at heart, so I appreciate Ned's love for Star Wars and LOTR.
17 Again focuses on a man, Mike O'Donnell (Matthew Perry), who gave up his life as a basketball star because he got his girlfriend, Scarlett (Leslie Mann), pregnant in high school. The film jumps ahead 20 years, and it shows us that Mike and Scarlett are now going through a divorce. Mike meets a crazy janitor who sends him back in time for a do over. This is where Zac Efron comes in. Zac Efron is the 17-year-old Matthew Perry...believable? Not at all. Do I care? Not at all. I love Matthew Perry AND Zac Efron, so I was sold on the movie immediately. The story covers a lot of bases when it comes to teens and what they have to experience in high school, as well as what it's like to grow up and find out that the drama and issues never really leave you alone. In the end, Mike O'Donnell realizes that saving his marriage and helping his kids are what is most important. It's cute. It ends happily. Yay. Matthew Perry runs off into the sunset with Leslie Mann, while I'm sitting there wanting more Zefron (I did say I am a dork, so yes, I did just make A Very Potter Musical reference) screen time.
This clip is one of the best scenes from the movie:
I give 17 Again 4 out of 5 stars.
