Movie #25 - Bad Boys II
Let me start off by saying that I have absolutely no idea why we own Bad Boys II, but not the original Bad Boys. May have to fix that.
Bad Boys II centers around two cops, Mike and Marcus, who are trying to bust an international drug dealer. Take out the character names, and you basically have the plot to 85% of the action movies nowadays. The plot is old and tired, so the movie is very slow to watch. I will admit, however, that the last 20 minutes of the movie are action-packed, and it's hard to keep your eyes off the screen. Other than that, the movie is just your average, typical action flick.
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence co-starring in a movie is like the comedic heavens opening up and giving us a gift. I am assuming they don't work together anymore because Will Smith is too good for Martin Lawrence now (or so he thinks), but I would really love to see the two of them in a movie together again. Will Smith plays bad-ass nicely. When he sprinkles in some comedy, it becomes even nicer. Martin Lawrence, on the other hand, does not play bad-ass...at all. He's the funny guy, and it works well for him. Honestly, everyone's always jumping on the Eddie Murphy bandwagon, but I'm more of a Martin Lawrence fan. Hollywood should put him in more movies. I'd watch 'em.
This movie is good - not great - just good. It's a film I would watch if I was bored and had nothing else to do. I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend this to a friend.
Overall, I give Bad Boys II a 3 out of 5 stars.
