Review of the best comedy of all time - Anchorman

Movie #17 - Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy

All you're going to hear in this review is how amazing this movie is. Anchorman came into my life nine years ago, and it forever changed my humor, my love for Paul Rudd, and my daily conversations with people. What do I mean by that? I cannot have a conversation with a person without finding some way to sneak in an Anchorman quote. Almost every conversation that anyone in the world has can be an open invitation for an Anchorman reference. That's a fact - 60% of the time, it works every time. See...it's just THAT easy.

This movie is hilarious. It has an amazing cast and amazing one-liners. What makes a great comedy that will stand the test of time and the ever-changing fads? One-liners. If you can get people to quote your movie, you're golden. Case in point: this film. It has been nine years, and I still hear people saying they're kind of a big deal or that milk was a bad choice. THAT is why this movie is the best comedy ever made.

Before this film, Paul Rudd wasn't really known in the comedy world at all. For the most part, he had only been seen in dramatic movies, such as The Object of My Affection and Cider House Rules. I know he was in Clueless as well, but he wasn't really supposed to be funny in that movie. He was also on a few episodes of Friends, but again, he wasn't cast as a particularly funny character. His big break as an actor was this film. Anchorman showed the world just how perfect he is. After Anchorman released, he went on to star in 40-year-old Virgin, Knocked Up, Role Models, Forgetting Sarah Marshall...the list goes on and on. He's fabulous. I think I love Paul Rudd so much because I feel like, if I were a man, I would be Paul Rudd. He has my humor. He's known for playing a sarcastic, cynical character...which is me. I love him, and I could gush all day, but I'll leave it at that...I love him.

This was also the starting point for Steve Carell. Absolutely NO ONE knew who he was before this film was released. I mean, he was Evan Baxter in Bruce Almighty, but honestly, who cares? His portrayal of Brick in Anchorman is genius. As it did with Paul Rudd, Steve Carell's career skyrocketed after Anchorman released...skyrockets in flight, afternoon delight...see, always a chance to quote this movie.

Now onto David Koechner...the man himself. HE is one funny guy. I don't care what movie he is in, I will find it funny. No doubt. There's really nothing else to say except he really is a big deal. People know him, and people love him.

Vince Vaughn...love him. I got super excited when I found out he was returning for Anchorman 2.

Will Ferrell...he follows very closely behind Paul Rudd as my favorite comedian of all time. You, sir, are a comedic god.

I will leave you with this - if you have not seen this movie, we cannot be friends...and/or you need to watch it now. I am also SOOOOOOOOO freaking excited for the sequel. Nine years of hoping for a sequel, and it's finally here. I'M IN A GLASS CASE OF EMOTION! I can't even contain all of the excitement that I am feeling for this film.

Overall, like you didn't see this coming, I give Anchorman 5 out of 5 stars.
