Review of Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan

Movie #34 - Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan

Borat is one of the most genius comedies I have ever watched in my entire life. Sacha Baron Cohen is an improv god. He is one person that I would love to meet in person, just to shake the hand of one of the best comedians of all time. Talk about method acting...he nails it. No wonder he was nominated for an Oscar and won a Golden Globe. Genius...
...and super gorgeous as well.

Borat is a documentary-style film about a man named Borat Sagdiyev who comes to America to film a documentary about our country. He has no idea how to speak the language very well and does not know our customs and mannerisms. He discovers Pamela Anderson and makes it his mission to travel to California to marry her. Chaos happens along the way, making this film completely hilarious. Now, Borat is not a real person - it is Sacha Baron Cohen playing a character. So, it's basically a man completely aware of our American customs, mannerisms, and language. He approaches your average every day Americans in different cities along his travels, and he messes with them. I'm pretty sure Sacha Baron Cohen was sued by half of America by the time this film actually released in theaters. Paid off though. Again, it got him an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe win. To stay in character like that while talking to these offensive and ridiculous people is the work only a true artistic genius can accomplish. I don't know where he got these skills from, but every time I watch him, I feel like dropping to my knees and pulling a Wayne's World...

The way that Sacha Baron Cohen exposes these horrific citizens of America is truly eye-opening. You already have some sort of knowledge that there are people all over the country, heck, the world, set in their ways- but this film is something else. I feel like that's why so many people sued him for this - it made them look like racist idiots...their true selves. I also believe that's why this movie is so appealing to me. It exposes these people, and Borat (Sacha Baron Cohen) makes them look like the morons they are. He is travelling across the country making fun of people, but he is also bringing them to our attention. The film title says it all "Cultural Learnings of America." Dang straight it's a learning experience of our American culture. I am embarrassed for our culture. This isn't just one section of the United States; he travels from New York to California...the entire span of the 48 continental states.

This film has so many awesome lines, I find myself quoting it constantly. Recently, I took a trip to New York City and found myself cracking up while walking passed Trump Tower. I couldn't even handle myself.

There isn't really much to say about this movie except watch it if you have never seen it.

Overall, I give Borat 3 out of 5 stars.
