Review of Bridget Jones's Diary

Movie #39 - Bridget Jones's Diary

This movie is one of my all-time favorite movies. Hugh Grant and Colin Firth in a movie always sells me straight away. They're gorgeous, they're talented...they're British.

Bridget Jones's Diary is a movie about Bridget Jones, a 32-year-old single woman, trying to find meaning to her life. She catches the eye of sexy, successful publicist, Daniel Cleaver [Hugh Grant], and they have a whirlwind romance that ends because Daniel is caught cheating on Bridget. Bridget then catches the eye of long-time family friend, Mark Darcy [Colin Firth]. Mark tells Bridget he likes her "just as she is" and Bridget falls for him immediately. After clearing up the lie Daniel told her about Mark stealing his fiancee from him - it was actually Daniel who slept with Mark's wife - Bridget and Mark start their relationship together...in the street, when it's snowing, and Bridget is wearing no pants.

This movie is so entertaining. It has its serious moments, but it also has just the right amount of comedy as well. It makes you feel for the characters and connect to their lives and the situations they're in. I absolutely love Bridget. And I know a lot of people knock Renee Zellweger and her acting ability, but I think she's fantastic. Her British accent gets a little bad at times, but whattaya gonna do. I also love Daniel and Mark. Even though they're complete opposites, I love both of their characters. The writers did a fabulous job of making me actually like Daniel - a guy who cheats on women and seduces them into getting what he wants AND Mark - an uptight businessman of few words...he literally barely talks in this film. I mean, seriously, Mark and Daniel [Colin and Hugh] are gorgeous. Renee was a dang lucky woman while filming this movie and the sequel.

Bridget Jones's Diary also has one of my favorite scenes in a movie EVER. The street fight between Daniel and Mark. It's hilarious. I can't find a video of it because all of the sites say it's blocked by copyright, but I did manage to find a GIF file of Daniel and Mark kicking each other during this scene.

Overall, I give Bridget Jones's Diary 5 out of 5 stars. It's fantastic.
