Movie #57 - Date Night
Date Night follows a married couple from Jersey, Phil and Claire Foster. They are just looking for a night out away from their kids, when they are mistaken for another couple (The Triplehorns). The Triplehorns are wanted by the extremely corrupt DA, so he has two crooked cops chasing down Phil and Claire. As Phil and Claire try to unravel the mystery that is the Triplehorns, they run into a lot of trouble. They eventually solve the case and save the day - putting the DA and his cronies behind bars.
Steve Carell is...I can't even. I love him. I have this recent obsession with him (which I also talked about in my Dan in Real Life blog entry). He's gorgeous. His character, Phil Foster, is the type of man you want your husband to be. Even though he leaves his share of messes, and doesn't seem like he is reliable at all - he is the one who saves the day. He loves his wife and his kids, and he will do anything to protect them. He surprises Claire, and it ignites the spark back into their marriage.
I love the story line to this film. For those of us who are married, we can identify with the idea that your relationship kind of plateaus at a certain point. It's hard to regain that spark you have when you first meet. Phil and Claire find a way to get their marriage back on track. Sometimes it does take an extreme situation for you to realize how much you love the other person.
My three favorite scenes out of the entire movie are 1) When Phil and Claire go to Holbrook's apartment for the first time and Phil answers the PA system as Holbrook. That's hilarious. 2) When Phil and Claire meet the Triplehorns. James Franco and Mila Kunis are so wrecked that it's amusing. 3) When Phil crashes into the taxi cab, and they take it on a joy ride through the city while being chased.
The fact that James Franco and Mila Kunis are in this movie together is great.
Overall, I give Date Night 3.5 out of 5 stars.
