#66 - Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd
Dumb and Dumberer is a prequel to the classic comedy, Dumb and Dumber. It's definitely nowhere near as funny, but the casting of Eric Christian Olsen as Lloyd Christmas and Derek Richardson as Harry Dunne is perfection.
A little known fact about Derek Richardson is that this was his first feature film; however, you would not know that from watching this movie. He holds his own next to Eric Christian Olsen, who has been in several films throughout his career. The casting directors really hit the jackpot with the two of them. I can't picture better actors to play the iconic roles of Harry and Lloyd.
Overall, it IS kind of a dumb movie...and not in an ironic way. The plot is odd. The principal of Harry and Lloyd's school wants to scam $100,000 from the school, so he sets up a special needs class for the funding. He gets caught due to Harry and Lloyd's consistent need to be idiots...but they save the day because of it. Harry has an invisible friend named Captain Rob, and he is trying to find Rob's buried treasure. Lloyd finds a treasure chest in the principal's office and gives it to Harry. They find a mixed tape in the chest that reveals all of the principal's plans. They play the tape live in front of the entire school, and the principal is taken away by the authorities. Like I said, lame.
I'm pretty convinced that I only enjoy this movie because of Eric Christian Olsen. He's such a great character actor. Oh yeah, and the fact that Bob Saget is in the movie. Yes! Best scene in the film...
I give Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd 2.5 out of 5 stars, but I still love it.
