Review: A League of Their Own

#134 - A League of Their Own

A League of Their Own is a story of two sisters, Dottie and Kit, that are discovered for their baseball talents and recruited to the first-ever female baseball league. When all of the male baseball stars are sent overseas for the war, the women fill their shoes and take America by storm. At first, the crowds poke fun at the ladies and don't think that they belong on the field; however, the players prove them wrong, and soon enough the stadiums are full of cheering, adoring fans. Although the women's baseball league was short-lived, the memories of them lives on forever.

This movie is such a classic. It is fantastic. The acting is spot on, and the writing is phenomenal. It's just one of those films that makes you invest your emotions in the characters. You pull for Kit to win the World Series, so she can finally be better than her sister, Dottie.

There really isn't anything negative about this film. It's a film that should be seen and loved by everyone. The only part I will critique are the scenes at the beginning and end with the "modern day" versions of the characters. It's touching, and they found terrific older actors to match the young ones, but I don't like how they voice-dub Geena Davis's voice over the older Dottie.

Possibly one of the greatest lines in cinematic history:

"There's no crying in baseball!"

Overall, I give A League of Their own 4.5 stars out of 5.
