My mission is to watch every movie I personally own. While watching each movie, I will review it and either confirm why I own this movie, or question my choices in life. I started this mission over three years ago...what can I say, I am not a very motivated individual.

Review: Les Miserables
#136 - Les Miserables
Les Miserables is a film adaptation of the beloved stage musical. The French Revolution is happening, and it is tearing families and loved ones apart. It is the story of a man named Jean Valjean, and his journey to becoming a good man and righting his wrongs.
This musical can be considered boring to some people, but to others (like me), it is considered one of the greatest musicals of all time. It is a truly fantastic story, and the music is beautiful. When adapting it to the screen, I was nervous about the casting. The characters in this show are ones that fans have been attached to for many years, so we were all ready to be really picky when the casting was announced. Then they said Hugh Jackman was playing Jean Valjean, and we all breathed a sigh of relief. However...then Russell Crowe started singing in the film, and we all cringed and said WTF? The casting for this film was pretty spectacular, except for Russell Crowe. I mean, what possessed them to have that awful voice be associated with this glorious musical? Every time he sings, I feel like ripping my ear drums out. It's THAT horrific.
Other than Russell Crowe's ugliness casting a shadow over the film, the rest of the cast is perfect. Especially Aaron Tveit as Enjolras...I mean, look at him...
Perfect face. Perfect singing voice. Perfect everything.
Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter as the Thenardiers = BRILLIANT.
This movie is something I watch when I want to feel incredibly emotional and cry like a baby. It's THAT good. It makes me feel 24,601 emotions...see what I did there ;)
Overall, this film does the musical justice...and then some. It's magnificent. I give Les Miserables 4 out of 5 stars. Russell Crowe makes it lose a star. He's really that bad.
